Am I at risk of getting the coronavirus if I have MS?

Here is My Question:
Another timely question on the coronavirus and Ocrevus. The CDC has recommended that those over 60 and those with "compromised systems" should "stay at home as much as possible."

How does this apply to someone in his mid 50's and on Ocrevus? 

Answer:
Anyone on Ocrevus, rituximab or any Lymphocyte depleting therapy should consider themselves at higher risk for complications from COVID 19. This risk will  be greater in the following individuals:

1. Those older than 60 (perhaps even over 50)
2. Those who are more physically disabled (need assistance to walk or unable to walk)
3. Those with other health concerns (diabetes, vascular disease, pulmonary disease)
4. Those who are smokers
5. Those who already experience more infections than usual
6. Those who have immunoglobulin deficiency (IgG or IgM) from prolonged lymphocyte depleting therapy

This being said, even if you do not have any of these risk factors your risk of complications from COVID 19 are likely to be higher than an age matched MS patient not on a lymphocyte depleting agent or a health age matched person

Therefore, take the CDC recommendations seriously. 

1. Social distancing of at least 6 feet and preferably > 10 feet
2. Hand washing for 20 secs (sing Happy Birthday song twice)
3. No face  touching  without hand  washing
4. Work from home if possible
5. Avoid meetings or events with groups of people ; use video conferencing
6. Avoid hospitals unless necessary
